Bye, bye baby

Tonight will be Lucy's first night in her big girl bed. Right now she's screaming at her door to be let out. But when she passes out on the floor we'll transfer her to her new bed. She's been so excited all day. We picked out sheets and a "princess tutu" bed skirt at Target. She helped take apart the crib and carry in the mattresses. She bounced there all night until it was time for bed. And then the drama, oh the drama. Thank goodness for spinny knobs so kids can't get out.
It's been a weird, bittersweet day. I can't believe we don't have a crib in our house. It's been 7 years of cribs, changing tables and rocking chairs. And now there's beds, dressers and bookshelves. The last remnant of babies in the house is diapers. Spring break is d-day. Those suckers are out of here. I mean it this time.

For those who knew me when, yes that is the bed and dresser I used growing up. I bought the quilt on my senior trip to D.C. with my mom. I loved it so much and wanted to pass it on to my daughter. I swear that was just yesterday. But then I see a mirror and know for sure it wasn't yesterday.

Awesome day. I am 100% behind locking them in their rooms and letting them fall asleep on the floor. Tough love, baby, tough love. We are about a month away from the big bed, but I am glad to report that T has been completely potty trained for the last three weeks. She did it herself; we hardly helped, and I can't believe it. I, too, am shocked that in a month, the crib that has been a permanent fixture in our lives for 8 years, will be in storage until I have grandkids. Unbelievable.

Sweetest girl. Hope she lets you sleep through the night... and Amanda did you mention grandkids?

That is a great quilt. Hopefully Lucy returned to it after only a few minutes of screaming "My Daddy!" at the door.

Wow, it's bittersweet, isn't it? I feel like I haven't seen you guys since Lucy was a baby...wait...I haven't! She's too cute. I find myself excited to think of the next phase that we are entering...no diapers, no crib, no bottles, but also a little sad. I cried when Hadley turned 3. But I don't miss the diapers...gotta say, lovin' that!

Reality! Let 'em scream until they pass out on the floor! Cracks me up to hear other people in the battle but it's not so funny when you're in the thick of it! Lucy's room is Darling! Oh such a big girl already! It is so hard to believe! Where does the time go? And we are still surviving it all. What are we going to do when they are teenagers?

I love this post. And I LOVE that quilt. It makes me feel less guilty about slowly adding to a future baby collection.

How adorable is she in her darling little room. I'm with ya on locking the door, I think there are nights when I need to do that with Ellie again. I'm kinda in the opposite situation. The crib is down but it's gonna have to come back up and sometimes I think how will we start this again. It goes so fast so lets enjoy every step. Love you guys, maybe I'll start blogging again soon!

Are you guys home today (President's Day)? We are in town and my boys are looking to wrestle with some other boys. Call my mom's house...Carol and Tim.
